Healing powers of Physicians celebrated

THE healing powers of the Physicians of Myddfai will be celebrated on Sunday during a bilingual service at the village church.

The annual St Luke’s Service, in the form of Choral Evensong, at St Michael’s Church, Myddfai, will be led by the Rev Paul Prichard and the sermon will be delivered by the Archdeacon of Carmarthen, the Venerable Dorrien Davies at 4pm.

The Physicians of Myddfai Society has published a booklet which traces the medical tradition in Myddfai from the 13th century to the present day. The society’s secretary, Dr Donald Williams, said: “The tradition of the Physicians of Myddfai is still very much alive. Although it had been assumed that the last physicians had died in the 18th century, the Myddfai area is still producing world-renowned physicians.”
