A circular walk in coastal wetlands

-

ON Saturday, Pat and David Bush led the Carmarthen Ramblers on a six-mile circular walk in the Bynea Wetlands area.

Our walk began at the Gateway Resort in Bynea from which we briefly followed the road to a footpath, which led us further inland.

We continued making our way northwards, crossing the B4297 and a railway line, before turning west on to a footpath beyond Bynea. We followed this path through the countryside, turning north again and then east towards the River Loughor.

Near Pencoed Farm we reached the high point of the walk and stopped for a group photo with the river downhill behind us.

Then we had a gentle descent on a footpath that led us down to a path running alongside the rail tracks above the river. Before long we stopped in a field looking over the river where we had our lunch stop.

After lunch we followed a quiet country lane inland until we turned on to a footpath heading south. We followed this path for a while, crossing the railway lines once again, and eventually walking past a large industrial site until we turned on to a footpath heading south. This path led us to the Wales Coast Path which we followed alongside the river to Morfa Bacas, where we turned back inland on a footpath leading back to the Gateway Resort. We enjoyed seeing the attractions in the resort as we made our way back to our cars for the drive home.
