All on the same song sheet...
PUPILS in six West Wales primary schools have enjoyed a unique opportunity recently which enabled them to compose and perform with Welsh singer and songwriter Dafydd Iwan.
As part of the project he visited the schools, working with pupils to compose a verse to celebrate the importance of each school’s local area.
This anthem will be performed by a choir consisting of pupils from all six schools together with Dafydd Iwan at an event which will be held during the summer term of 2023 to celebrate the collaborative project.
The Brynaman-born singer said: “Working with six Carmarthenshire schools on this project is an experience I will remember for ever.
“It makes the pupils more aware of their environment and local area, which is so crucial, and in tune with the new Welsh curriculum.
“The enthusiasm of both pupils and teachers was inspiring, and I look forward to meeting them all again.”
Pupils were excited and felt privileged to be able to work with Dafydd Iwan after he gained a new generation of fans with his inspirational performances of his song Yma o Hyd (‘still here’) ahead of Wales’s recent World Cup qualifying football matches in Cardiff.
The unique project, funded by
Brechfa Forest West Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, has enabled Ysgol Llanllwni, Ysgol Nantgaredig, Ysgol Llanpumsaint, Ysgol Abergwili, Ysgol Cae’r Felin, Pencader, and Ysgol Peniel to work together to deliver the Cynefin scheme to more than 500 pupils across the six settings.
The project encompasses the ideology of the new Curriculum for Wales and its purpose is to ensure that pupils have a sense of identity, belonging and pride in their local area, Wales and further afield.
The aim is that each child will become more familiar with the geographical, historical, cultural and social aspects of their area, creating citizens who will contribute to the future of their communities.
