RUGBY ROUND-UP

-

NARBERTH secured an excellent 30-10 victory at Cardiff Met in the Admiral Championship.

A Nick Gale penalty gave Narberth the lead, but the students hit back when a kick downfield was collected by thir prop, who dived over near the posts for a converted try.

But the Otters led at the interval thanks to two more Gale penalties.

In the second half Narberth exerted more pressure and duly took the chances they created.

From a high kick Narberth regained possession and the ball was spread wide to wing Ashley Sutton, who raced in at the corner. Gale’s conversion made it 16-7.

Cardiff Met reduced the deficit with a penalty, but the visitors regained the upper hand and scored the tries which sealed their win.

After a series of rucks close to the line, Dafydd Roti managed to force his way over. Gale converted. And the visitors had the final say when the ball was moved wide to Sutton and he freed George Macdonald to go over. Gale again converted.

Ammanford got ready for their top-of-the-table showdown with unbeaten Bonymaen by coming from behind to beat Bridgend Athletic in One West Central.

They conceded three tries in the first half and trailed 17-6. But they conjured up a try from fullback Elis Lewis that Ryan Williams converted.

They ran in three more tries to end up with a bonus point and a 34-17 triumph. Wing Mike Rees, Lewis again and scrum-half Jonny Evans crossed and Williams converted two.

They now trail Bonymaen by four points, but could overhaul them if they win at home this weekend with a bonus point.

Bony extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 31-5 home victory over Brynaman.

Amman United won 29-24 at Furnace United in Three West B.

But it was the hosts who opened the scoring after just 30 seconds, with full-back Rhys Phillips intercepting a pass and running in unopposed from halfway. Daf Green converted.

The visitors were soon level when good forward play created a try for skipper Alun Lewis. Tom Caddell converted.

Amman went in front when a well-executed move saw scrumhalf Alex Williams pounce for the first of his two tries.

The Amman pack were on the move again before half-time and a rolling maul ended with Tom Thorneycroft crossing the line.

On the hour Amman claimed a bonus point when Williams scored a superb solo try as he slalomed past a bewildered defence. Caddell converted to give his side a 26-10 advantage.

But Furnace roared back. Green chipped over the defence and followed up to touch down and convert his own score.

Caddell’s penalty gave his side a 12-point lead, but Furnace hit back again when they were awarded a penalty try.

Amman are in cup action at Cwmllynfell on Saturday.
