Gower back at summit as they see off Albies

-

ONLY two league games were played on Saturday in the Macron West Wales Premier League, and South Gower are now top on goal difference after their 4-2 win at fifth-placed Evans & Williams.

Gower opened the scoring on six minutes with an Owen Evans strike from the edge of the box before Luke Jones restored parity after a good turn in the 14th minute.

The Albies weren’t level for long as Ieuan Priede headed home after the home side surrendered possession cheaply at the back.

But on the stroke of half-time they were again level at 2-2 when Kris Brown scored.

Gower went ahead again through Liam Bennett, and their captain Jack Jones made certain of the points in the 82nd minute.

Honours ultimately were shared as Cwm Wanderers drew 1-1 at home to seventh-placed CK Swiss Valley.

Cwm left it until the 94th and final minute when Oliver Ranford equalised with a free-kick, scoring in his fourth consecutive game.

Ross Buckley-turner thought he had won it for the Llanelli side when he netted from an 87th-minute counter-attack, despite the best efforts of Cwm defender Ashley Davies.

In the Macron WWPL Cup, Morriston Town beat Dafen Welfare 6-2 at Dafen Park to set up a quarter-final at Pryderi Park against West End in February.

Lennon Evans gave Dafen the lead, but by half-time Morriston led 4-1.

Their scorers were Kieran Hayes (2), Nathan Beniamous (2), Scott Deakin and Taylor Evans.

Jordan Williams replied for the Bluebirds, while Morriston central defender Christian Evans was red-carded.

Giants Grave won 3-1 at Parc Newydd against Pontarddulais Town.

Iwan Rees had given Bont the lead at the interval.

But second-half goals from Ben Wayman (2) and substitute Richard Evans on his debut won it for Grave.

On Saturday four West Wales Premier League clubs – Seven Sisters Onllwyn, CK Swiss Valley, Evans & Williams and Penlan – are playing in round three of the FAW Trophy.

CK Swiss Valley head to Cefn Cribwr, while Evans & Williams host Baglan Dragons.

It gives Morriston Town the opportunity to go back to the top of the league when they host West End at the Dingle (2pm).
