Church in Wales services For St Teilo’s in Brechfa, services are at 11am every Sunday apart from Sunday, November 13, Remembrance Day at10.55am. At St Michael’s, Llanfihangel Rhos y Corn, the normal pattern of services is the first and the third Sundays of the month at 2.30pm. The monthly Pilgrim Service continues at Llanfihangel at 6pm on the second Wednesday of the month so the next one is on November 9 at 6pm. Congratulations A very big vote of thanks to Carys Jones and Phil Edwards and all who contributed to the evening of film and video clips through the years. A hugely entertaining evening with a capacity audience reminiscing about characters and long forgotten productions and events. Thanks to the History Society for sponsoring this event and serving refreshments. Over £500 was raised towards the area’s fundraising target for the 2023 URDD Eisteddfod.

Public meeting An important public meeting for the community has been called to discuss the future of Garnant Day Centre. Garnant’s County Councillor Kevin Madge has called the meeting as he feels the day centre is under threat, it being open only three days a week since reopening. The open meeting will be held at Ysgol y Bedol Hall on Friday, November 11, starting at 7.30pm, and as well as Cllr Madge, attending will be our current MP Jonathan Edwards and Rob James, leader of the opposition at Carmarthenshire Council; all welcome, please make every effort to attend and show your support for our day centre!
OAP branch Cwmaman OAP branch meet every Thursday at the Community Education Centre, High Street, Glanaman, between 2pm and 4pm. We play bingo, but you can also come along and just sit and chat; tea and coffee, along with homemade cakes are also served. We also organise day trips and outings, and we also have a £100 snowball. Sad news last week with news of the sudden passing away of Garnant gentleman Gareth Rees, of Bishop Road, not long after he’d attained his 80th birthday. Gareth was the husband of the late Maeriona Rees, and was the loving father of Jayne and Andrew, also proud grandfather of Cameron, Dylan and Nia. Deepest sympathy to Jayne and Andrew, and all the family on their sudden and sad loss. During his younger working life, Gareth had worked as a mechanic at the former Billy’s Garage (Raven Garage) situated at the bottom of his road. The funeral is today 2 at Llanelli Crematorium at noon.
Cwmamman Brownies had a wonderful time at their pack holiday at Parkmill in the Gower. They visited the Gower Heritage Centre, where they participated in various crafts. Luckily, the weather was kind, and they had a lovely muddy walk through the autumnal woods. Lots of new experiences were gained from the weekend. Other fun activities still ongoing in the unit.

Rachel Eirianna Pritchard passed away peacefully at her home at Heol y Gors on September 28,and sadly, her beloved husband, Clive Thomas Pritchard also died, aged 85, on October 9. Eirianna and Clive (formerly a colliery electrician, working at Cwmgors Pit among others), were the loving parents of Michelle and Julian, respected mother/father-in-law of Andrew and Sian, devoted grandparents of Nicholas, Shannen, Sioned and Kayleigh, proud greatgrandparents of Oliver. Eirianna was also a dear sister of Wynford and Iris, and Clive was a fond brother of the late Jeffrey. The funeral was on Monday, October 24, at Morriston Crematorium. Food Forward food boxes Collaborating with Fareshare and Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council, Food Forward Burry Port is a Lotteryfunded project which supports local residents. The venue is 38 Station Road, Burry Port SA16 0LP. The opening times are every Tuesday between 11am and 5pm. £1 a year for membership then each week you will have the option of spending £3.50 or £5 for goods worth between £15 to £20. British legion The annual general meeting of the Newcastle Emlyn branch of the Royal British Legion, followed by the branch committee meeting, took place over Zoom on Tuesday, October 18. Robert Mills was re-elected as chairman, Ken Jones vice-chairman, Vivian Lote treasurer and Teresa O’ryan secretary, who will also serve as Membership Secretary. Continuing to serve on the committee are KW Rathbone president, JM Beckingsale vice-president, Paul Abrams standard bearer, Kari Byrne, Helen Corbett, Lorraine Knight, Esther Peacock and Richard Redman.
