Drefach do just enough

-

ON a wet and windy morning at the Gwendraeth, leaders Drefach U14s did just enough to beat local rivals Ammanford 1-0 in the Carmarthenshire Under-14s League.

Drefach’s defence of J Thomas, T Bull, S Rhys and H Thomas have conceded only two own goals and a penalty all season but had to dig deep to keep Ammanford at bay.

The midfield trio of AJ, J Davies and the returning D Rees worked their socks off and made it very difficult for the talented Ammanford midfield to create anything.

However, it was the visitors who created more of the chances but were often stopped, with L Jones dominant and marshalling the net well, including a superb save in a 1 v 1.

The second half saw D Morris, C Thomas and D Davies enter the fold and raring to go. E Morgan, L Thomas and I Bull worked hard up front all through the first half but Ammanford were solid in the back and hard to break through.

Fifteen minutes from the end Drefach started to get the upper hand, with J Davies finding some cunning passes to the front men. After a couple of attempts from Bull, Morris and Morgan, a goalmouth scramble saw Morris slot the ball low into the net.

A nailbiter of a game could have gone either way, a real local derby with passion, sweat and commitment, with Ammanford a real threat.

This weekend Drefach welcome Johnstown.
