Protestors demand climate justice
PEOPLE from across Carmarthenshire joined a demonstration in Carmarthen on Saturday, as part of the global day of action around the Cop27 global climate summit.
Across the UK, up to 100,000 people from all walks of life joined demonstrations on the day demanding global climate justice.
The Carmarthen event was organised by West Wales Climate Coalition (WWCC), part of the Climate Justice Coalition.
Activists are calling for action over climate change and their rally coincided with the Cop27 summit which is taking place in Sharm el-sheikh, Egypt.
Organisers of the day of action in Carmarthen said they wanted to highlight their solidarity with Egyptian activists who are unable to take to the streets in Sharm elsheikh due to laws restricting civil activism.
WWCC undertook a ‘Demonstration of Injustices’ march into the town centre where members of climate change movement Extinction Rebellion spoke about the increase in fossil fuel lobbyists present at Cop27 - an increase of 25% on last year.
In Guildhall Square, protesters were joined by South Wales Quakers holding an hour-long silent Earth vigil over financial institutions who continue to finance fossil fuel companies.
Finally the march entered Nott Square for a rally, hearing from various speakers.
