Youth society finally delivers

AFTER a long and frustrating journey through bureaucracy, site location and planning, the Llandeilo Children and Youth Society has finally come through for youngsters in the town.

From Friday November 18 to 20, at the Llandeilo Festival of Senses, the society will have a presence to introduce the new youth worker, Sioned Thompson.

“We want to get to know more of the local youngsters,” explained chair Christoph Fischer, “to take details of those interested in getting involved and listen more to what they would like us to provide.

“The festival is the perfect place to start with so many residents attending. “We aim at a soft opening after the festival, where we invite everyone to the civic hall for more discussions.

“It’s great we can get the ball rolling before Christmas.”

Sioned Thompson has worked for Dr Mz’s in Carmarthen and will run regular sessions at Llandeilo Civic Hall aided by volunteers and will engage in an outreach programme locally.

She said: “I can’t wait to get started and getting back into youth club work is a dream come true, and being able to set it up together with the kids and create it from scratch with them will be lots of fun.

Treasurer John Meredith Williams said: “We encountered so much goodwill and generosity from the public and sponsors.

“It’s great to be able to finally deliver and it’s long overdue that kids have places to go in Llandeilo.”

To start with, the youth club will be running in the Civic Hall downstairs room on Mondays and Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
