Drefach seal cup progress with fine win

-

DREFACH Under-14s reached the last 16 of the West Wales Cup with a 3-0 victory over Neath side Giants Grave.

It was the latest in a long line of fine performances from the Gwendraeth Valley side, who top their Carmarthenshire Junior League with six wins from seven matches.

The home defence of R Roberts, T Bull, S Rhys and J Thomas defused any threat from Grave’s attack, backed up by the excellent D Davies.

Drefach tested the keeper early on with T Bull hitting the crossbar and E Morgan asking questions of the keeper.

Midway through the half J Davies found himself in space and, spotting the keeper off his line, he blasted home from 30 yards to give his side the lead in superb style.

The second half started with Drefach upping the tempo as they looked to double their advantage. And they were rewarded when the Grave goalkeeper saved an effort from L Thomas, only for Morgan to fire the ball home.

Grave kept pressing but were denied by an excellent save from Davies, while a long-range effort hit the post.

With the game opening up, the ball was spread wide and T Bull fired a cross into the box where Morgan headed sweetly into the top corner.

The gutsy visitors kept on trying to narrow the gap, but Drefach held firm.
