Sunday free gigs continue at Cwmgors Rugby Club, and this weekend’s offering on Sunday afternoon will be Emma Ruiz, entry totally free. Birthday news Rachel Jones, of Llwyncelyn Road, Tai’rgwaith, is wished all the very best on celebratin­g her 88th birthday on November 28. School fundraiser Football First came to Gwaun-cae-gurwen School on November 21, a sponsorshi­p event to help raise money for the school.

Cylch Ti a Fi at GCG School will now take place on a Tuesday afternoon between 1.30pm and 2.45pm. Unfortunat­ely, there will only be two sessions available before Christmas due to other commitment­s. The dates are November 29 and December 6. We hope to see old and new faces coming along; the Cylch is open to everyone,£2 a session.

School news Pupils at Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun-cae-gurwen were marking Anti Bullying Week once again this year, and wore odd socks to school last Monday for the day. On Friday, November 18, meanwhile, we celebrated the Children in Need campaign when children came to school wearing pyjamas, or clothes with spots on for the day.

Breakfast with Santa! Come and enjoy Breakfast with Santa at the Cafe at the Track, Maerdy racetrack, Tai’rgwaith, on Saturday, December 10 and 17 (9.30am to 11.30am). Entry is £15 per child, which includes breakfast, Santa’s Grotto, a selection box, a craft workshop and storytime with Mrs Claus. There will also be glitter tattoos. Children must be accompanie­d by an adult; book your tickets now!

Cinema outing Pupils of Ysgol Gwaun-caegurwen will be enjoying a trip to the pictures when they visit Brynamman Cinema on Tuesday, December 20.

Christmas concerts Ysgol Gwaun-cae-gurwen’s Christmas concerts this year are in rehearsals; Mrs Phillips, Miss Rideout and Miss Dazely’s classes will be performing Santa on Strike on December 13 and 14 (10am start). Then, Mr Jones, Mrs Hitchings/mrs Mathews and Miss Jones’s classes will perform Pantolig on December 14 at 2pm, and on Thursday, December 15 at 5.30pm. Numbers are limited to 130 people for each show, based on a first-come, first-served basis. You can purchase tickets via Parent Pay.

Tai’rgwaith Senior Citizens The branch will next be meeting on Monday, November 28, at the Community Hall,tai’rgwaith.

Christmas dinner GCG OAP branch’s 2022 Christmas dinner has been booked for Cwmllynfel­l Hall, on December 8. The next meeting, meanwhile, will be on Thursday, December 1, at GCG Community Hall, New Road, at 2pm, when all will be welcome.

Coming soon to GCG Library, look out for wreath-making sessions to enjoy; you can book for November 20 and 26 and for December 4. Also, the Christmas Fair will be back this year, and will be on December 3.

Trotting club awards Amman Valley Raceway held their awards evening and hog roast at the Cafe at the Track, Tai’rgwaith, on October 29. There was also music, plus an auction. Thank you to all who attended and helped make it such a great success. Susan and the cafe team ensured plenty of food and drink was available, and well done the Amman Valley committee with Trudy Launchbury at the helm. A superb evening all round. The award winners were: Emma Langford (leading trainer); Matty Thomas (leading permit trainer); Julian Price (leading owner); Kia Hall (leading C-class driver); Oakwood Rocket (jeading top horse); Black William & Dis Moi Oui (joint leading Trotter); Doonbeg (leading stallion). Well done to all the winners. Family quiz night Amman Valley Trotting Club’s Cafe at the Track will be hosting a family quiz night on Friday, November 25, from 6pm till 10pm. Quiz entry is £3 per adult (children free), maximum six to a table. Curry and a pint will be £7, and chicken nuggets, chips and a drink £3. All proceeds from the event will go towards a very worthy cause, the Wales Air Ambulance.

Bereavemen­t Our deepest condolence­s to all the family, following the passing away of Gwaun-cae-gurwen gent Peter Evans. Peter, of Ger yr Afon, GCG, died peacefully at Morriston Hospital on October 29. The beloved husband of the late Lynne, Peter was also the loving father of Craig, Brandon and Dean, respected father-in-law of Liz and Christine, a dear grandfathe­r of Ceri, Anthony, Katie, Dafydd, Danielle, Rhys, Eliot and Amelia, a cherished great-grandfathe­r,and dear brother of the late Randall. The funeral was on November 18 at Morriston Crematoriu­m.
