LOUGHOR SHINE IN DERBY WIN

-

AFTER winning only one of their first six games in the Premier division of the LTC Mobility Carmarthenshire League, Loughor Rovers produced their best performance of the season to defeat neighbours Gorseinon Athletic 4-1 at home.

On target with two of the goals for Loughor was Mike Grimwade, and there was one each for Joel Goddard and Aaron Bushrod.

Striker Joel Andrews fired in a remarkable seven goals for Seaside in their 10-1 win at Burry Port. There were also goals for Elliot Birchell, Ben Honeybun and Kieran Dawe.

There is no change at the top of the table, with leaders Pontlliw keeping their 100 per cent record intact with a 3-0 win against Pengelli United.

Terry Grey scored two, and there was one for Danny Smale.

It means that defending champions Trostre AFC – eight points behind with a game in hand – have some catching up to do, especially after their shock 2-1 home defeat against Killay.

A goal by Liam Jones wasn’t enough for the hosts.

In the only game played in division one, Llandovery Town climbed into fourth place in the table after making ground advantage count in a hardearned 2-0 win against Llangennech.

The influential Mark Dyer was in the thick of the action with a goal, plus an assist for Scott Price.

For the first half an hour there was little to choose between Pontarddulais Town Reserves and visiting Llandeilo Town in division two.

Eventually Cameron Davies broke the deadlock to edge the home team ahead in the 35th minute, before Iestyn Rees doubled the advantage seven minutes later.

Two second-half goals by Ricky Challiner secured maximum points in a 4-0 win.

There were three important points for Johnstown, for whom Steffan Davies netted twice in the 4-1 win at home to West End United. Oliver Jones and Ryan Wheatland also scored.

It took 120 minutes to settle the Challenge Cup second-round tie between Caerbryn and visiting Kidwelly Town. In a dramatic climax, Oliver Dymond missed a penalty for Caerbryn in the 92nd minute.

Sixty seconds later it looked as if the hosts were on their way out when Alex Kay gave Kidwelly the lead, but Arwel Gravel scored a last-gasp equaliser to send the tie into an extra half-hour.

And in extra time it was Caerbryn who took control, with Cian Anderson giving his side the lead for the first time in the 100th minute.

With the visitors pushing forward, Iwan Easton took his chance well to make the final score 3-1 in favour of Caerbryn.

Also through to the third round are FC Carmarthen, who strolled to a 7-0 win at KRUF. Six of the goals were shared equally between Tom Walters, Ryan Evans and Keith Davies, while Terry Maynard was the other player to get his name on the scoresheet.

Loughor Rovers stepped up their challenge for the title in reserve division one with a 4-2 win at Gorseinon Athletic. Will Picton scored two for Loughor, and there were also goals for Calum James and Alex Mccumesky.

Neck and neck with Loughor in the battle for the title are Trostre AFC Reserves, who beat Llangennech Reserves 4-2 in their own back yard. The goals for Trostre were scored by Clayton Jenkins, Anthony James, Cameron Dickeson and Jonny Thomas.

In reserve division two, FC Carmarthen proved too strong for visiting Tumble United when winning 5-2. Steffan O’leary starred with two goals, and there was one each for Simon Jones, Aaron Smith and Benjamin Morgan

Camford Sports Reserves claimed a 3-2 win at Loughor Rovers A.

Josh Finan scored two for Camford, with Kalem Tinnuche also netting.

Loughor’s goals were scored by Dave Mcewan and Shaun Jones.
