Festive event to be held at community shop

-

CHRISTMAS carols, mulled wine and mince pies will all be part of a special festive celebration at a community shop in the heart of Carmarthenshire’s Towy Valley, writes Ian Lewis.

The Dryslwyn Community Shop and Post Office would like to thank their loyal customers by inviting them all to an afternoon of carol singing, mince pies and mulled wine on Thursday, December 15, from 3pm.

Volunteer co-ordinator at the shop, Christoph Fischer, said it would be a great opportunity to bring the entire community together ahead of Christmas where they could chat with their neighbours and get to know each other better.

He added: “The shop has always aimed to be a hub and bring the community together and I want to increase the social aspect and number of gatherings like this one to foster this.”

The Dryslwyn shop and post office was established in 2009 and is a lifeline to many in the community and entirely run by volunteers.

Sitting off the A40 between Carmarthen and Llandeilo, it serves the communities of Dryswlyn and Cwrt Henri.

However, with its lease ending next year, a new home is needed and plans have been under way for the past 20 months as part of the Siop Newydd project.

Last year land was donated for a new shop to be built to the side of HG Bryer and Sons Ltd car garage, which is next to the current shop.
