Cwm climb the table as they rally to claim crucial points

-

CWMAMMAN United claimed a crucial three points in Ardal League South West with a 3-1 defeat of Seven Sisters Onllwyn.

The three points helped Cwm pull away from relegation danger.

Charlie Davies and Ross Morgan established a level of control early on as Cwm launched attacks with Sion Dafydd Williams and Calem Rees going close.

However, it was the away team who struck the opening blow when Ross Newell’s flick header from a free-kick went in off the crossbar in the 19th minute.

Cwm suffered another blow when defender Cory Saunders had to leave the field to be replaced by Gwion Howell.

But it didn’t affect Cwm’s flow and following some pressure, a slick Howell pass put Williams through on goal. Keeper Harris made a fine save, but Williams followed up to nod home the equaliser.

And Cwm were ahead minutes later when a neat Davies pass allowed

Rees to finish well.

On the stroke of half-time, a Williams shot hit the post.

Seven Sisters started the second half strongly and Cwm keeper Kai Rees was called upon to make an excellent save.

Ronan Templeton, Grant Rees and Callum Dougal were strong in defence in the difficult conditions and Harrison Thomas was enjoying an excellent game on the left side of midfield.

The key goal came in the 73rd minute when Howell managed to tuck a shot beyond the outstretched hand of Harris.

The final 15 minutes saw Seven Sisters put Cwm under severe pressure as they chased the game, but the home defence held firm for an important win.

Victory lifted Cwmamman above Seven Sisters and they now occupy 12th place in the table, with 11 points from their 12 matches.

Cwmamman host AFC Llwydcoed at Grenig Park on Friday evening.
