Tough day for Valley as leaders hit best form

-

SOUTH Gower are back on top of the Macron West Wales Premier League on goal difference after a convincing victory against CK Swiss Valley at Scurlage.

They have now amassed 33 league goals from their eight games.

They started the game well, Ieuan Priede opening the scoring in the seventh minute, although CK were level at 1-1 when Lewis James fired in a 25yard free-kick.

The Gower side extended their lead to 4-1 by half-time with two from debutant Alexander Giardelli and Jack Jones netting the fourth.

Giardelli added a fifth for Gower for his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining.

After their demoralising defeat to Morriston Town the previous week, Dafen Welfare edged out Pontarddulais Town 2-1 at Dafen Park to maintain their involvement in the top half of the table.

Craig Frater and Jack Cutler scored for the Bluebirds after Shaun Harris had given Bont an early lead.

As a result of the horrendous weather, only one other game in the league took place.

Penlan AFC were at home to Cwm Wanderers although the game was abandoned at half-time due to the adverse conditions.

Penlan were leading 1-0 at the time.

The game will be replayed. Penlan captain Luke Edwards got their goal.

This Saturday the West Wales FA Cup third round sees some interesting ties as clubs look to book a place in the last 16.

Penlan visit the Dingle to take on Morriston Town for their fourth meeting this season and third cup tie. Both previous cup encounters ended 0-0.

Dafen Welfare visit highscoring Brynaman-based Bryn Rovers of the Neath Premier League and West End will also be expecting a difficult afternoon at fellow Swansea side Brynawel.

Evans & Williams will be hoping to continue their good form on their 3G pitch at home to Swansea League division two side Treboeth United, while South Gower travel to Felinfoel of the Carmarthenshire League’s Premier division in confident mood after their recent successes.

In the Macron WWPL, CK Swiss Valley host Pontarddulais Town and Cwm Wanderers are at home to Giants Grave, with all four clubs in need of points to move away from the bottom of the table.
