Ruffaud opening week

There were nearly 30 carp caught in the opening week to over 20kg so everyone agreed that, despite the very cold conditions, it had been a successful start for the new venue. Since then the fishing has gradually picked up as the temperatures have slowly risen. But many of the fish have stayed in the bays as the stream water is still warmer than most of the lake! Rob Hales, who was at Ruffaud recently, decided that the best option was to go stalking in the shallows and that proved to be a good move when, in a couple of brief spells, he caught four good fish – but the most striking had to be an incredible koi carp with long flowing fins! A few others on the team also tried stalking with some good fish to show for their efforts. As the lake settled down good fish to over 50lb have been coming out. Latest news is that Swim J has just produced 16 fish to over 20kg in just three days. As conditions improve the fish are becoming more mobile and spreading out around this sprawling lake – so the next couple of months should be very interesting.
