This was the start of the Stuart show. He had already built quite a catch report but now the big girls had turned up. The first of which was Gums – a fish which has weighed into the low-60s in the past. It was also the end of the Sean show. I would have loved to have seen just how many carp he could have milked from the swim, as he was receiving continuous liners right up until the point that he had to reel in and make for home. He did however sign off with potentially the lake’s biggest common, although as with all the others that haven’t really fed due to the unbearable, hot weather since spawning, the Double Belly common weighed a mere 62lb 8oz.
Those words will probably haunt him forever, as no sooner had he raised it to his chest, than the great fish kicked twice, forcing him to lower it again and with a swoosh of the tail, it was gone
ABOVE BOTTOM A fitting send off for Sean. He’d given them another hiding over the course of a fortnight, with his final fish being the one he really wanted – Heron’s Double Belly common
ABOVE TOP The weed wasn’t too bad this year...
