Joan’s first Croatian carp
Joan Briggs has travelled the world and caught carp from several countries over the years, but Croatia was one place she had yet to visit. That was put right recently when she travelled with her partner (some would say understudy), Steve, for a week session at the prolific Lake Sumbar. Steve had visited the year previously and said that it was the hottest place that he had ever been to – well, he wasn’t joking and this did indeed turn out to be another scorcher for the pair. But despite the high temperatures, the carp were getting their heads down and a good fish was always on the cards. After a quiet couple of days the swim was given a boost of bait, including 12mm and 15mm Scopex Squid boilies along with pellet, flaked boilies, hemp and maize. It certainly did the trick and before long there was plenty of activity around the spots. A good fish showed over one rod and, shortly after, the alarm sounded and Joan was soon doing battle. It was a slow, plodding fight and it was no surprise when a big common rolled into the net! At 54lb 8oz it was a great way to break the Croatian duck! It’s now the 16th country that Joan has caught carp from, with 50lb carp coming from three of them.
