Etang Le Grand Pierre
Trevor Childs ventured back to Le Grand Pierre after the trip with Shaun Harrison – the ‘Three Lakes in Five Days’ feature which appeared in Carpworld 336. Although all the party felt they didn’t catch as well as they might have done, and discussed returning, it was Trev who was the first to actually get himself back, this time accompanied by his better half, Lynn. Trevor had convinced her that it was the perfect place for a bit of relaxation! In the event Lynn became an almost full-time photographer and actually ended up landing a rather large fish herself, that many hardened carp anglers would have loved to have caught. It didn’t take long for the first fish to find Trev’s baited area. It is always nice to get off the mark early and he certainly did that and was soon into a rhythm – landing fish, hookbait out, quickly followed by another 10 or so Spombs of bait, which was mostly boilie. Slowly but continuously his catch developed. By Tuesday evening it was noted that the carp were starting to show far more toward the opposite side of the pit, so, at first light on Wednesday, Trevor was dragging Lynn out of bed for a move. With a week’s worth of gear to pack, move and set back up, they would have been ready for a rest whilst looking back toward where they had just vacated. But, the carp were to give them little peace and very soon the action started again and the carp simply kept on coming. Apart from a rogue koi which is believed to be the only one in the fishery, all the rest of Trev’s 31 fish weighed over 35lb, with the jewel in the crown weighing in at 76lb 4oz – a stunning common. Lynn’s PB weighed in at a very credable 52lb 7oz.
