200 fifties for Briggsy
Steve Briggs made the long drive out to Parco Del Brenta in Italy for a week’s fishing in the hope of seeing some of the many good carp that the lake holds and it’s fair to say that the trip exceeded his expectations! The 16 anglers had a draw at the start of the week – with Briggsy coming out last, which left him with swim 22, a swim that he actually quite fancied anyway. It turned out that the swim had remained empty the previous week and the fish had undoubtedly taken up residence where there were no lines. His action started literally within minutes of getting the rods out, and it wasn’t long before he started to get amongst the bigger fish. The first big one was a 57lb common, which was followed by another of 55lb 8oz – and the importance of that fish was that it was Briggsy’s 200th carp over 50lb. He is thought to be the first UK angler to reach that number. The action carried on consistently through the week and he ended up with over 50 carp, six of them over 55lb, with several more between 40lb and 51lb. All of the action came on Nash 15mm Scopex Squid wafters, fished over 12mm and 15mm Scopex Squid freebies along with Key Cray pellets. These were fished on KD Claw rigs with 25lb Skinlink hook links.
