Did you know?
Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, was married to Hephaestus, the god of blacksmiths and metalworking. Despite his devotion to her, she was unfaithful and took many lovers, including Ares, the god of war. She was also the patron god of prostitutes, including hetairai, who were well- paid, highly educated escorts. There were many hetairai in the ancient Greek city of Corinth, which had a major temple to Aphrodite.
