Comforting guests

Dear Michelle,

My dad passed away recently after a long battle with cancer. We’ve got a large family so he had lots of visitors in the hospice, but even so, Mum and I were a bit taken aback by the number of visitors he claimed had been to see him! One day he mentioned that his sister Jane had been in. As Jane had died when she was a child, we were surprised to say the least! Mum asked him if he was sure, but he was adamant, and it wasn’t only Jane. In his final few days, he said he was visited by his parents, his grandparents, and even relatives who’d died before he was born. Mum was with him when he died. He was sleeping peacefully when he suddenly opened his eyes, smiled and said, ‘ Hello!’ He passed away a couple of minutes later. We believe that he was being visited by his family members in spirit, and this has given us a lot of comfort and helped us cope with losing him. Helen,53,wells

Dear Helen

People often see loved ones in spirit when they’re near to death. It really helped me and I’m glad it’s helping you too.
