I na church in Rome called Chiesa di Santa Maria in Cosemedin, inside a jewelled reliquary, can be found the skull of St Valentine, patron saint of lovers – or at least, it’s thought to be. The skull was found during the excavation of a catacomb in the 1800s and attributed to St Valentine – but whether it’s truly him or not remains shrouded in mystery.
