SPICE IT UP
Lots of spices are said to be natural aphrodisiacs – but studies suggest that saffron, which is made from yellow crocus stamens, genuinely improves sexual function. The study by a team at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, found that ginseng also has a similar effect. A further study indicated that women who were given 30mg of saffron a day for four weeks experienced higher levels of arousal and increased lubrication. Cleopatra, who knew a thing or two about seduction, used to take saffron-infused baths. Today, saffron is used in alternative medicine to improve mood. It’s commonly used in Spanish cuisine – so why not treat your amour to a spicy paella this Valentine’s day? Olé!
