SACRED BREW

-

Japanese tea ceremonies, also known as ‘The Way of the Tea,’ are an ancient and hugely spiritual Eastern tradition. They give participants the opportunity to take themselves out of the real world and experience inner peace. This zen tradition is an art form and takes many years of study to perfect. The master or host spends hours preparing themselves and their utensils before serving the tea, which is made from matcha, a type of green tea. Guests must first wash their hands to cleanse themselves of the outside world before entering a sacred chamber where the tea is served. Why not instil a sense of peace and harmony in your day by creating your own tea ceremony? It doesn’t have to be time-consuming - a few simple rituals will make all the difference and help you to unwind.

Tryit!

Start by setting the scene. Light a candle, burn lavender oil to promote relaxation and set a place at the table. Rinse your hands in warm water, and as you do this, imagine you’re washing away any negative thoughts or worries. In tea ceremonies, each movement is gentle and graceful. Bear this in mind as you make your tea. Breathe deeply and focus on what you're doing, from the gradual stirring of the pot to waiting for the tea to brew. As you pour it in the cup, watch how the liquid flows and fills the space. When you finally take a sip, savour the taste. Feel contentment spread throughout your body. Enjoy!
