CASTING THE RUNES

-

Keep your runes in a small bag and either you or the person for whom you’re reading should take out the correct number of runes (see below) for the chosen reading. Before pulling out a rune, think of a question you’d like answered or ask for guidance.

One rune

A single rune gives a snapshot of a situation or problem. You can also use this as a morning ritual to give an indication of how your day will unfold, or as a focus for meditation.

Four runes

This reading tells us the past, present and future. Place the four runes in the directions of north, south, east and west. Nordri (North): THE PAST. Influences that have had an effect on the past in relation to the question.

Sudri (South): THE PRESENT. Events happening now that have an effect on the present in relation to the question.

Austri (East): THE FUTURE. Obstacles to watch out for that may hinder the outcome or goal you have set for yourself.

Vestri (West): THE OUTCOME. The possible outcome taking all the runes into consideration.

Five runes

A five-rune reading, sometimes called Thor’s Cross, gives an insight into a specific issue or problem. Pick out five stones and place the first in the south, the second in the west, the third in the north, the fourth in the east, and the fifth rune in the middle.

Rune 1. THE SITUATION: The basic influences that underline the question. Rune 2. BARRIERS: Highlights obstacles to be overcome. Rune 3. POSITIVE INFLUENCES: What supports you. Rune 4. WHAT’S COMING SOON: The possible short-term outcome. Rune 5. LONG TERM RESULTS: Shows the final outcome.
