Mother’s Day was first celebrated in Ancient Egypt. A festival was held annually to honour the mother goddess Isis, who was believed to be the perfect wife and mum. It’s thought these celebrations pre-dated even the Roman and Greek mother goddess festivals such as Hilaria, during which the goddess Cybele was revered.
