Symbols explained

-

Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll are probably the most famous examples of ‘it was all a dream’ surreal madness in popular culture. So when one of the characters from Alice enters our own dream worlds, there’s something very symbolic going on…

ALICE

herself represents distraction from reality, a thirst for adventure, and curiosity, especially about the mysterious aspects of life.

THE CHESHIRE CAT

grinning its way through your dream means deceit, mistrust, mockery or mischief. Carefully does it!

DORMOUSE

from the tea party symbolises exhaustion with things, tiredness with life, or not getting enough sleep and rest in general.

THE JABBERWOCK

looming into your dreams can represent ugly, horrendous, troublesome elements around you. Something – or someone - is making you afraid.

THE MAD HATTER

is symbolic of strange, peculiar or odd influences. You may be feeling as crazy as him!

THE MOCK TURTLE

symbolises a feeling of general sadness and frustration regarding non-specific things, irrational worries, and misplaced concerns.

THE QUEEN OF HEARTS

represents pompous, arrogant and unpleasant energies. Someone may be proving difficult to please or to deal with - what a pain!

THE WHITE RABBIT

can mean running out of time for something, that you’re up against the clock in some way, or that you’re about to embark on a difficult or confusing journey (literally or metaphorically!)
