Handy to know
The Hand or hamsa is a Middle Eastern talisman that is a sign of great protection. Common on doors across North Africa, the hamsa is an open-palm hand with three closed fingers and two thumbs. The hand symbol was originally found in ancient Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) as a symbol of the Mother Goddesses Inanna and Ishtar. Among Muslims, it is known as the Hand of Fatima, after the daughter of the Prophet Mohammed, and its five fingers represent the Five Pillars of Islam, and the five daily prayers.
