There be giants
The Mediterranean island of Malta is famous for its prehistoric megalithic temples, built in mysterious circumstances around
3500BC. According to legend, they were constructed by a giant race of humans with super-strength, but unlike fairy tale giants, these spiritual creatures were kind and wise. It was thought that when the humans stopped praying to these beings they mysteriously vanished. One thing that hasn’t disappeared from Maltese folklore is the Gawgaw. Unlike the giants of old, this zombie-like creature is after blood and spends most of its time lurking in wells waiting for children to lean over the edge. If you ever find yourself in the old city of Mdina, by all means visit the ancient well, but don’t get too close to the edge as the Gawgaw may drag you in!
