We like to keep tabs on the Loch Ness Monster here at Chat it’s fate – figuratively speaking, anyway – so we were interested to hear that something’s been spotted in Loch Ness. Something big...

A sonar image captured by Cruise Loch Ness director Ronald Mackenzie as he was skippering a boat across the lake appears to show an object, around 33 feet long, 500 feet down in the depths of Loch Ness.

He said, ‘It was right in the middle of the loch at about 170m (558ft) down. It was big – at least 10m (33ft). The contact lasted 10 seconds while we passed over. I’ve been on the loch since I was 16 years old and I have never seen anything like it. We have real state-of-the-art sonar on the new boat. It doesn’t lie. It captures what’s there.’

In the Daily Record, leading sonar expert Craig Wallace described the image as ‘100 per cent genuine.’

But is it definitely Nessie? Craig Wallace added that it could be ‘a sturgeon or a large shoal of fish.’

We reported earlier in the year that a lot of eel DNA was found at the bottom of Loch Ness, leading scientists to speculate that ‘Nessie’ could be a giant eel. Could this be what Mackenzie spotted? It’s certainly another fascinating piece in the Loch Ness monster puzzle!
