You don’t have to be a committed Christian to feel inspired by the sight of the Holy Family, the baby in a manger and animals grouped around in a household crib. The birth of a magical child, symbolising the return of the sun, has been celebrated at the Solstice for eons. If you have space, place a crib in your hall or living room and arrange fresh flowers and candles around it, to inspire the household. Each person can write a secret wish on paper, folded beneath the crib. Burn these on Twelfth Night, to manifest your desires.
