FOREST OF DOOM

-

The beautiful Dering Woods, known as the ‘Screaming Woods’, were once part of thick forest that stretched from Dover to the Isle of Wight and were so dense that many entered, never to return.

The ‘crunch, crunch’ of invisible footsteps has been heard accompanying walkers through the woods. But nothing can compare to the sounds of wailing and crying said to emanate from the souls of those who have got lost there and starved or dehydrated to death.

The Screaming Woods have long been targeted by ghost hunters and thrill seekers – and last year, a photograph appeared in the local news outlet, Kent

Online. A mother from Folkestone, Ann-marie English, had taken her children for a picnic in the Dering Woods. She took a photo, zoomed in then noticed the image of a small girl watching them from a tree. She also claims that the dark figure of a man was watching her from behind another tree.

The ghost of a colonel was sometimes spotted in the Park Woods before they were levelled. He appeared hanging from the tree on which he killed himself. Although his apparition has not been seen for years, visitors have reported the sound of a man marching in the surrounding area.
