Close to the site of the famous Battle of Hastings, during which poor old King Harold was bumped off by an arrow through the eye, Battle Abbey in East Sussex is notoriously haunted, with riderless horses leaping through walls and more ghostly figures than you could shake a stick at! This year, from 20 to 28 October, it’s holding a Haunted Abbey event, with spooky tours around the abbey grounds, led by creepy characters in costume. Kids can enjoy craft activities, make masks to take away, and enter the fancy dress competitions - the best scary outfit wins a prize.
Then, on 3 November, there's a street parade in Battle High Street to celebrate both Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night. Dress like a ghoul and go along to enjoy the spectacle! You can book tickets at english-heritage.org.uk – if you dare….
