The Battle of Bannockburn took place on 23 and 24 June 1314 and was a major victory for the Scots in the First War of Scottish independence. Edward II assembled a force to free Stirling Castle, which was under siege by the Scottish army. The English army was overcome by the Scots force, led by Robert the Bruce.
