The Artist’s Dream was painted by George H. Comegys in 1840. It depicts an artist, with his head laid down on the table in front of him, dreaming of famous artists like Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rubens and Rembrandt. Immensely talented, Comegys tragically died aged 28 after suffering from lifelong mental illness.
