Ring daloo!

I found hubby’s lost ring in naan other than a curry!

- By Annie Robb, 50, from St Albans

When Chris came home from work, his jaw dropped!

My hubby Chris, 49, returned home from his weekly football game looking glum.

It was a Thursday in September last year. ‘Did you lose?’ I asked him. ‘Not the match, but I lost something else…’ he grumbled.

Turned out he couldn’t find his wedding ring!

Thinking it must’ve fallen off during the match, he’d scoured the pitch for 45 minutes with help from a few other players. But they hadn’t found it. ‘How could you have lost it?’ I said, dismayed.

Our wedding rings had been handmade by a jeweller friend. Both were engraved with our wedding date – 21 September 2002 – in Roman numerals. Yellow gold for me, white gold for Chris.

The next day, Chris went out to buy a metal detector to search the pitch one more time.

Sadly, he found nothing, but I tried to reassure him.

‘Someone will probably find it and hand it in,’ I smiled.

I signed up to a lost-and-found website for our local area, but weeks turned into months and there was still no sign.

Soon, we both put the lost ring to the backs of our minds. Until July of this year… We were preparing to move house with our kids Jasper, 13, and Scarlett, 9.

I’d decided to clear out the freezer that day – and, as I rummaged through the contents, I found an old bowl of leftover chicken curry buried away at the back, frozen solid.

I left the bowl in the sink to defrost before I threw it away.

But, when I came back to it a few hours on, I caught a glimpse of a small circle inside. At first glance, it looked like a keyring, but I was in for a shock… Plunging my hand into the curry, I pulled out Chris’ wedding ring! Speechless, I couldn’t believe what I had in my hand. But he lost it at football. How did it end up in a curry? I wondered, confused. Chris was so convinced it’d slipped off during the match that we’d never thought to look at home.

I was so excited, but there was nobody at home for me to show it to!

Later that night, when Chris came home from work, I produced his wedding ring, and his jaw dropped.

‘You’re kidding!’ he said, stunned.

‘It was in a curry,’ I grinned.

Chris was as gobsmacked as I’d been.

We reckon the ring must’ve fallen off his finger when he put the bowl in the freezer, and he didn’t notice it until later.

If I’d thrown the curry away frozen, his wedding ring would’ve gone forever.

We still can’t believe we found it – a whole year on – in a curry.

Korma blimey! Jasper caught Chris’ reaction to the news of his ring being found on video. To watch it for yourself, go to Youtube and search ‘Lost wedding ring found in curry’.
