THE VIGIL
On New Year’s Eve 2002, over 1,000 people held a candlelit vigil in Laci’s honour. Peterson declined to speak, which people understood. But photographers captured him in two damning snapshots: one in which he lights a candle with a big smile on his face and another where he stands with people laughing and grinning.
Three witnesses later testified that Peterson was ‘emotionless’ at the vigil. Yet it was what he did while there that prosecutors argued showed his guilt the most – he rang his secret mistress Amber. She believed he was in Paris seeing in the New Year.
