2004: Hostage’s body found
Rachel Hudson’s body was discovered on 18 March 2004. The mum-of-two had been imprisoned and abused by her husband and his family.
Her body, weighing just 6st and covered in burns and bruises, was found in a rolled-up carpet in the grounds of Newstead Abbey in Nottingham.
Rachel’s in-laws Ron and Trudi Hudson, along with her husband Craig and his brother Ronald, were all convicted of murder in December 2005.
2011: Sian abducted and murdered
Sian O’Callaghan, 22, was making her way home from a night out in Swindon when she was abducted by taxi driver Christopher Halliwell, 47, in the early hours of
19 March 2011.
Halliwell was arrested when CCTV showed Sian getting into his green Toyota Avensis outside a nightclub. He confessed, taking officers to her body near Uffington, Oxfordshire. He was given life for her murder, and later convicted of murdering another woman, Becky Godden.
1974: Kidnap attempt on princess
Princess Anne and her thenhusband Mark Phillips escaped a kidnap attempt when their car came under siege on The Mall on 20 March 1974.
A man appeared from another vehicle and began shooting. The royal couple were unscathed but four people were injured.
Ian Ball, 26, was sentenced to life in a mental hospital for the attempted murder of the princess’ detective.
