Easiest ever ice cream
Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Madagascan Vanilla Ice Cream,
£3 for 500ml
Deliciously dense and velvety smooth, this had the best texture of all the varieties we tried. Produced by the awardwinning team at Stapleton Dairy in Langtree, Devon, it had a good depth of flavour and wasn’t overly sweet. Tesco Finest Madagascan Vanilla Ice Cream,
£2 for 500ml
The colour of this ice cream divided the food team, because the crushed vanilla pods and Demerara sugar resulted in a slightly brown finish. The vanilla flavour was a little overshadowed by notes of caramel, but this is perfect for those with a sweeter tooth. Co-op Irresistible Clotted Cream Vanilla Ice Cream, £3.50 for 500ml
Light in colour, with a lovely whipped texture, this ice cream is smooth on the palate and is really boosted by the indulgent clotted cream. The champagne-barrel-aged vanilla is a nice touch, though it’s not as prominent as we would have hoped.
