I need a cure for my weird nipples
The dark skin around my nipples is full of lumps and they’re getting bigger. They’re ugly. Can’t I shrink them?
This ring of skin around your nipple is your areola, and these lumps sound like areolar glands, or Montgomery’s tubercles. They produce oil which lubricates your nipple and helps prevent infection, particularly if breastfeeding. The glands enlarge during pregnancy, so if yours have recently enlarged, take a test!
If one gland becomes very swollen or red, it could mean blockage and infection – but otherwise, it is normal.
Non-oily moisturiser and a skin cleanser for blocked pores might reduce the lumps. If you can’t live with them, a small cosmetic op can shave them off.
