I can’t accept she’s gay

-

Q

Our 33-year-old daughter has announced she’s gay. I’m shocked and devastated. She wants us to meet her girlfriend, but I’ve said no.

My husband and I presumed our only daughter would marry, and we’d be grandparents, but my world has been shattered. Carol, 54

Clearly this was a huge shock, but think of it this way. Aren’t you lucky to have a daughter who is in a happy relationship and loves you enough to want to share her life? Your lass is the same person she was before she came out.

There was never a guarantee of grandkids, even if she was straight. And just because she’s gay, it doesn’t mean that she won’t be a mother – or marry, if that’s what she wants.

Sit quietly and explore why you’re upset. Does that matter more than your girl’s happiness?
