Q What is lottery fraud?
H Lloyd, East London
A ‘With this fraud, criminals contact victims telling them they’ve won a lottery or prize draw,’ explains Action Fraud. ‘Victims are then told they must pay an advance fee in order to get their “winnings”. In reality, the winnings are non-existent and it is an attempt to steal the victim’s money, personal and/or financial information.’ Action Fraud received 629 reports of this type of fraud between April and October 2021.
