James Bowen was homeless and down on his luck when he met Bob the cat in 2007.
Abandoned and injured, Bob’s nine lives were about to run out when James nursed him back to health, spending his last £30 on a trip to the vets. It was the start of a purr-fect friendship. James began taking Bob busking and the duo soon became local legends.
Inspired by his four-legged friend, James wrote a book about their relationship, which was translated into 40 different languages and made into a film in 2016.
Bob sadly passed away after being hit by a car, aged 14, in June 2020, but his memory lives on in the form of a life-sized sculpture, in Islington Green, north London, where he and James used to hang out.
