Sex is so painful

APainful ejaculation is no joke, but guys rarely discuss it and we don’t even know how common it is – estimates range from 2-25% of men.

The most common cause is infection, usually caught through sex, of your testicles, the prostate gland or your urethra. A prostate gland that’s enlarged with age, the after-effects of surgery, or nerve damage, are all possibilities, too, and sometimes we just can’t pinpoint a cause. Check with your GP if you’ve recently started antidepressants as these can cause orgasm pain as a side-effect.

Treatment depends on the cause and might mean antibiotics or, rarely, surgery.
