The Devil’s Punchbowl, Surrey
Distance: 3.1 miles Difficulty: Moderate
Legend has it the Devil’s Punchbowl was formed when Thor, the God of Thunder, scooped a handful of earth to hurl at the Devil. The trough left behind is a remarkable sight in the Surrey hills, as the wild scrub of Hindhead Common gives way to the sloping ridge of the bowl. Look out for the flashes of purple heather and woodland crocuses.
