The Sutton Gamekeeper

Hollin Lane, Macclesfield, SK11 0HL. 01260 252000 thesuttongamekeeper. co.uk

Venue:

Who doesn’t love a country pub with a roaring fire and a fabulous menu? The decor at the Sutton Gamekeeper is rustic and simple - what you might call a real pub, somewhere you can turn up wearing wellies and damp tweed or your best Jaeger twin set and pearls.

Menu :

The Sutton Gamekeeper is noted for its game but we had burrata cheese accompanied by some exquisite pickled grapes and heritage tomatoes, £5.95, and a gin cured sea trout, £5.95. The second course, local venison, £19.95, served with homemade chips was perfectly cooked and the roasted red chicory, £11.95, is a perfectly judged triumph. Blackcurrant, blackberry and plum crumble, £5.95, with home-made custard was superb and so was the selection of cheeses, £8.95, which came with crackers and fruit cake.

Service:

Nothing was too much trouble.

Cost:

£89 for two with three courses, three cheeses and three wines and three beers. Worth every penny!
