The Prince’s Trust at Chester Racecourse
Champagne corks were popping as 200 guests arrived at Chester Racecourse for a glamorous Prince’s Trust polo day.
As the Laurent Perrier champagne reception launched the proceedings in fine style, guests were entertained by singer Scott Chapman, before taking their seats for a lavish luncheon.
Caterers Horseradish served a three-course feast that included a starter of filo baked goats’ cheese, followed by rare roast medallion of moorland beef, ale braised short rib, fresh horseradish, lemon and parsley gremolata, butter mash and roasted heritage carrots. Dessert was a delicious rich chocolate marquise with fresh raspberries and meringue. Then came the chance to learn a little about the game before a polo showcase pitted sponsors Tilney against a team from the Prince’s Trust, with the game ending in a draw.
A downpour did little to dampen spirits as guests followed tradition by stomping the divots before heading back into the marquee. Afternoon tea was followed by an auction for money-can’t-buy prizes, including a private tour of Highgrove Gardens donated by no less than HRH The Prince of Wales. An impressive £30,000 was raised from the occasion.
