Year after year France retains its title of the world’s most visited holiday destination. With some of the most delicious food and drink, fascinating culture and history, buzzing urban centres and scenic villages and countryside, this should come as no great surprise to anyone. No matter what your passion, be it food, art, wine, or the great outdoors – think cycling in the sunshine alongside a tumbling tree-lined river – France has something for every visitor. Here to enjoy are just three of the destinations which feature in the 2019 FRANCE Calendar, brought to you by Archant’s FRANCE Magazine. A popular stop on the pilgrimage route from Le Puy-en-velay to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, Conques is an attractive village of timber-framed buildings and twisting paths, festooned with flowers and foliage. It sits in the wonderfully rural department of Aveyron, at the confluence of two rivers – the Dourdou de Conques and the Ouche. One of France’s famous Plus Beaux Villages, Conques welcomes visitors to wander its streets – perhaps following the scallop shells of the Camino - and explore its charms, from artisanal craft shops, to the 12th-century abbey church and of course plenty of cafés and restaurants to while away the hours in.
