Victors has been a dining hot spot in Hale for a couple of years now but has just made its debut in Alderley Edge on the old site of the Alchemist and it looks like repeating the success of its ‘big sister’.

It is just so perfect for Alderley Edge with its winning combination of Hamptons style chic and all-day dining menu, plus a large helping of glamour.

I so wanted to rock up for one of those lingering Saturday lunches you might have if you were dining with affluent friends on Long Island but guess what? They’re booked for several weekends to come, so we went along on a dark wintery Wednesday night and I am happy to report that we didn’t feel we were missing out as the place was buzzing.

We hit the bar and immediately bumped into our favourite TV presenter Michelle Ackerley who was celebrating her gorgeous

mum Mavis’s birthday with a glass or two of fizz. I’m not saying it’s a haunt of the rich and famous but if you do fancy doing a little bit of celeb spotting this could be the place for you!

Chatting at the glittering bar while sipping a glass of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut, NV, £12, is surely one of life’s pleasures and great care has been taken over the fantastic cocktail list and wine menu. From the latter we ordered a lively, clean tasting bottle of Mâcon-villages, Louis Jadot, Burgundy, France, £39, when we finally dragged ourselves to our table.

In keeping with its laid back Hamptons vibe is the menu, an eclectic mix that includes Sushi rolls and modern Sashimi, pasta and small pizzas as well as steaks from the chargrill. We ordered from the fashionable small plate selections, which arrive as and when they are freshly prepared, and kicked off with attractive plates of sushi filled with soft shell crab served with a hit of spicy cocktail sauce and crispy duck sushi beautifully complimented by a sweet plum sauce and orange dressing, £7.50 each.

Mushroom croquettes, £9, had a powerful hit of mushroom and truffle and the cheese beignets, £6, were like crispy panko coated cheese ‘bombs’ exploding creamily in the mouth.

Lamb cutlets, cooked in a Korean style BBQ sauce and the margherita pizzetta, £8, were real crowd-pleasers.

Alas! They had sold out of the sharing platter of desserts so we tasted each other’s. Mine was the Victors Garden, an exceedingly indulgent and very sweet dark chocolate tart, with vanilla and yuzu crème, complete with chocolate ‘soil’ £7.50 and my guest’s was an irresistible chocolate fondant, oozing an unctuous centre and paired with poached kumquats, coconut and roasted almond ice cream, £7.50.

Mention too must be made of the stunning decor. The wall covering in the restaurant is a work of art. Wisteria hangs from the roof giving it an indoor garden feel. Plus, someone has worked miracles in the loos with the lighting; when I looked in the mirror I’d lost about 30 years. How could I not love the place?
